Nancy Hurrell plays a Portable Irish Harp (c) by John Egan. The tune, Carolan's Concerto, was first published in Edward Bunting's "A General Collection of the Ancient Irish Music, Vol. 1" (). There are now several collections of ancient Irish music, of which the chief are those by Bunting, Petrie, Joyce, and Horncastle; a large collection in a Dublin periodical called "The Citizen"; and a volume of Carolan's airs published by his son. The man who did most in modern times to draw attention to Irish music was Thomas Moore.

Turlough O'Carolan, (Irish: Toirdhealbhach Ó Cearbhalláin; Irish pronunciation: [ˈt̪ˠɾˠeːl̪ˠəx oː ˈcaruːl̪ˠaːnʲ]) ( – 25 March ) was a blind Celtic harper, composer and singer in Ireland whose great fame is due to his gift for melodic composition.. Although not a composer in the classical sense, Carolan is considered by many to be Ireland's national composer. A general collection of the ancient music of Ireland, arranged for the piano forte; some of the most admired melodies are adapted for the voice, to poetry.

The Ancient Music of Ireland - The Bunting Collections (Please note, this is a very heavy hardback book) Edward Bunting's three great collections of Irish songs, with piano arrangements: A General Collection of the Ancient Irish Music (London, Dublin ). A General Collection of the Ancient Music of Ireland (London ). The Ancient Music of Ireland (Dublin ). A general collection of the ancient Irish music, containing a variety of admired airs never before published, and also the compositions of Conolan and Carolan ; .
